This is about a friend of mine. About her and her x-boyfriend, M. She called me up one day and suddenly told me her story. Her x-boyfriend is going to get married soon. It struck her heart when she first found out. Their break-up hasn’t even reached a year then. Then she took a solemn oath to herself never to think about the guy again. But then, of course it was hard. It was like wiping the sun off the sky on a sunny day. Though, due to her work load and the limited time she had every day, she managed to push M out of her mind until she reached a limit where he was no longer a significant shadow hovering above her head.

Well, she managed to push the shadow away but the shadow couldn’t push her. Like they said in the movie Magnolia; You can run away from the past but the past won’t run away from you. So anyway, just recently (just barely 2 months before M’s wedding) she found out that M still loves her. Really, really loves her. The marriage was just a rebound for him. It’s just that his EGO is in the way so he opts for an easier and ego-safe method - rebound.

In this situation I pity three people, all three main characters above; the former girlfriend, M and the future wife. Well, less pity for the former because she seems to be recovering from her mishap, slowly but steadily. Pity M because from where I am standing, he doesn’t know where he stands. He is so engrossed into ego-world, until even his friends cannot recognize him. Pity the future for being a second chance and as a cover-up for someone who had his heart broken by himself.

Sincerely, although I am mad for him for hurting my friend, I know that my friend really has high hopes for the success of his marriage and hopefully in the end he will love his wife much more than he loved the former.
